Lefty's military career...

Lefty's official biographer and closest friend since childhood Dan was reminiscing about the days when he and Lefty served in the military together...He relates this story from his memoirs:

As you know, Lefty was in the Marine Corps. According to reports, reportedly, there was that incident at formation and inspection that got him into trouble. The Sgt.Maj. had all the Marines lined up for inspection - feet even, hats on at the right tilt-angle, eyes right, and at Attention. The Colonel goes down the line ... comes to one PFC with his hat on crooked ... WHACKS him across the head with his baton ... and sez "Does that hurt?"  The PFC sez "NO, SIR!"  The Col. says "WHY NOT?"  The PFC sez "Because I'm a MARINE, Sir !"

The Col. goes on down the line, whacking a few more Marines for infractions, asking if it hurt and getting "Because I'm a Marine, Sir!"  Just as he is about to return to the reviewing stand, he takes one last look down the troop lineup ... and sees a BIG wang sticking out of PFC Lefty.

The Col. goes up to Lefty, gives the wang a BIG WHACK !!!!, and sez "Does THAT HURT?"  ... PFC Lefty sez "NO, SIR!" ... The Col. sez "WHY NOT? ... Because you're a Marine?" ... And PFC Lefty sez "No, Sir, because it belongs to the guy behind me!"

Historical footnote: Lefty redeemed himself and cleared his record completely when the barracks chief appointed him as PLO (Permanent Latrine Orderly) as captured on tape from barracks security video below...
